A Rare Case of Wound of the Abdominal Wall and Colon

In the left hypochondriac region there was a wound, more than ail inch and a half long and nearly three quarters of an inch wide, running obliquely inwards. This wound communicated with the colon, and there was a large, hard, circumscribed swelling around it. All her stools passed by this opening, and none whatever by the anus. She appeared much distressed, and moved about with difficulty. The pulse was small and quick, and the tongue furred. Two daye after admission, I gently pressed out of the wound between five and six ounces of pus. I ordered milk and arrowroot ; but as such food was strange to her, she refused it, and 1 was compelled to allow her milk and rice. Opium was administered, and the wound was simply kept as clean as
